REGISTRATION

When does registration open?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Registration for Session 1 opens July 13th, Session 2 opens November 2nd, and Session 3 opens February 1st.
  • Summer: Early bird registration for Children’s Summer Classes and Camps will be open on January 25. Registration for all summer programs opens February 1st. 
  • Adult: Classes in the Adult Program are available for enrollment one month prior to the class taking place. If a class fills, a waitlist will automatically become available for sign-up.
Do students have to sign up in advance, or can they drop in?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Summer/Summer Dance Intensive/Company Repertory Workshop/Adaptive: Drop-in sessions are not available. Students must register in advance. Please read our section on placement and trial classes.
  • Adult: Adults may choose to enroll in advance via our online system, or can enroll in person upon arrival at the Ballet RI studios. This class session will go onto your MindBody account and can be applied to any of the Adult Program drop-in classes. Students who are 16+ may take drop-in classes. All adult classes are drop-in classes. 
When does registration close?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Registration for Session 1 closes September 27th, Session 2 closes December 13th, and Session 3 closes April 4th.
  • Summer: Registration closes June 13th.
  • Summer Dance Intensive: Registration closes at the end of May.
How often do students have to re-enroll?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Students who pay for an annual enrollment enroll once per academic year. Tuition is split into three payments. Families pay with the registration fee at the beginning of the academic year and are then auto-charged two more times on a 12-week cadence. There is also an option, during open registration periods, to enroll in Sessions 2 and 3 or Session 3 alone, and annual tuition will be pro-rated accordingly.
  • Summer: Must be enrolled separately each year.
What happens if I want to sign up outside of a registration period?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Summer/Adaptive: Families who wish to register must wait until the next registration period opens.
Are classes ever cancelled permanently once students are enrolled? What happens if a student has their class cancelled? What about when classes are cancelled for weather?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive/Summer: From time to time, a class may be cancelled due to low enrollment. Families are notified via email. Decisions regarding whether a class runs for the entirety of the session will be made by the end of the registration period. Classes must have at least five students enrolled to run.
  • Adult: Classes cancelled in instances of inclement weather, illness, etc. will be indicated on the MindBody software and also be announced via Ballet RI’s social media accounts. Your session will be returned to your account for use at a later date.
  • Inclement weather: When classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, Ballet RI will send emails, text messages, and post on its social media accounts, and post on Channels 6, 10, and 12 on television
How do I know what level to sign up for?
  • Children’s/Open/Adaptive: Trial classes may be taken during a registration period for a fee of $15. Pre-Ballet 3 students re-enrolling will be sent an evaluation in the summer indicating their level from one academic year to the next. Please note, if a class indicates a specific age requirement, students must be that age by September of the academic year in which they are enrolling.
  • Core: Placement classes may be taken during a registration period for a fee of $25. Students re-enrolling will be sent an evaluation in the summer indicating their level from one academic year to the next.
  • Summer Dance Intensive or Company Repertory Workshop: This program is audition based.
  • Adult: Classes take place on a regular basis and students can speak to the teacher at the end of class to see if a class is a good fit for them.

What payment methods do you accept?
  • Credit Card

  • Check – made payable to BALLET RI. You will incur a $30 fee for any check deposited with insufficient funds.
Is there a registration fee?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: There is a $50 registration fee for the first child, each additional sibling being $35.\
  • Summer Children’s Classes: There is a $20 registration fee.
  • Summer Dance Intensive: There is a $100 registration fee.
  • Company Repertory Workshop: There is a $10 registration fee.
  • Professional Trainee Program: There is a $100 registration fee.
  • Adult: There are no registration fees.
If my student joins after the first day of classes, are classes pro-rated?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Families who join late will have their tuition pro-rated one week at a time. If a family joins during the 2nd week of classes, they will have 1 week worth of classes pro-rated, if during the 3rd, they will have 2 weeks pro-rated, and so on. Once registration is closed, (apprx. 4 weeks into the respective session) students can no longer register and tuition will not be pro-rated.
When is tuition due?
  • Upon registration. Families in need of a payment plan should reach out to [email protected].
Do families have to pay in full? Are payment plans available?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Families may pay for the entire year via 3 automatic payments.
  • Summer/Summer Dance Intensive/Company Repertory Workshop/Adult: Families must pay in full to participate in these programs.
  • Those who face financial barriers to participating can reach out to [email protected] with questions.
What is the cancellation policy? Is there a fee charged? Are classes pro-rated?
  • Please reach out to [email protected] to cancel a registration.
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Students can cancel at any time during the registration period. Once the registration period closes, students may stop attending, but no refunds will be provided. Families who choose to withdraw their students during the registration period will be charged the price of all classes that have taken place, whether attended or not, as well as a $30 processing fee and the non-refundable registration fee.
  • Summer: Families may cancel up until June 12 to receive a refund. Classes for summer programs are not pro-rated.
  • Summer Dance Intensive/Company Repertory Workshop: Prior to the beginning of the program, no refunds shall be issued for tuition or housing expenses already paid if a student withdraws from the program without a Doctor’s note. If the program has already begun, and a student wishes to withdraw, all tuition payments are not refundable. In the event of a Doctor’s note being submitted, tuition payments will be considered for refund.
  • Adult: You may cancel your registration up to one (1) hour prior to the class start time by logging in to your MindBody account. Your class session will automatically be returned to your account and will remain available for use for one (1) month from original purchase date. If you cancel less than one (1) hour prior to the start time, you will not have the class returned to your account. To cancel participation in a workshop after the first class in the series, adults may contact [email protected]. Adults may sign up for a workshop at a pro-rated rate once it has begun until after the second class has taken place. Once the second class has taken place, cancellation will not be possible.
What is the refund policy?
  • Refund decisions in relation to extenuating circumstances are made on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the Principal and the School Office Manager.
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Refunds are provided during the registration period only. Registration fees are non-refundable. Classes are pro-rated based on how many weeks in the session have taken place by the time the refund is requested and a $30 cancellation fee is applied. Withdrawals during any session due to medical reasons may constitute a refund or credit. In the case of an injury, notification of withdrawal must be done in writing accompanied by documentation in the form of a letter from the attending physician outlining the medical reason(s) for the withdrawal. The Principal must receive all documents within 7 days of the injury. BALLET RI has the right to request medical confirmation from our medical consultants regarding said injury. Students who miss a class can take a makeup class in the same level or lower by emailing [email protected]. Refunds for missing class will not be provided.
  • Children’s Summer Classes and Camps: Families may receive a refund less than the non-refundable registration fee until June 12, 2027.
  • Summer Dance Intensive/Company Repertory Workshop: Prior to the beginning of the program, no refunds shall be issued for tuition or housing expenses already paid if a student withdraws from the program without a Doctor’s note. What are the terms and conditions for the Monthly Pass for the Adult Program?
  • The Monthly Pass runs on a month to month basis with no annual commitment. Pay for the first month on the date of purchase, and that day becomes your monthly auto-charge day. A valid card must remain on file. To update your billing information, log in to your Mindbody account and update billing information there. There are no extensions, roll-over classes, or pro-rated refunds for unused classes at the end of month. All monthly payments are non-refundable. The Monthly Pass is non-transferrable. Classes on the Monthly Pass can only be used by the pass holder. The Monthly Pass cannot be paused, held, or frozen; however, please see the cancellation procedure below for reaching out at least 2-weeks prior to your auto-charge date.  The Monthly Pass is valid for drop-in classes only. Workshops are excluded.
  • To cancel a Monthly Pass or get assistance with updating your billing information, log into your MindBody account or email [email protected] no less than 2-weeks prior to the auto-charge day. Requests received less than 2-weeks prior to the auto charge day cannot be accommodated until the following month. Written cancellation requests must be received at School of Ballet RI (825 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02906 ATTN: Adult Programs) 2-weeks prior to the auto-charge day.
Are there any discounts offered?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: There is a discounted registration fee for siblings.
  • Summer: There are no sibling or returning student discounts for summer camps and classes.
  • Adult: If you are a Student, Senior (65+), Veteran, or Industry Professional, you can access classes at the following DISCOUNTED prices:
  • Drop-In Classes – $18 per class (no matter the length)
  • Monthly Passes:
    – $68 per month for 4 classes
    – $132 per month for 8 classes
    – $183 per month for 12 classes
How do scholarships or financial aid work?
  • Children’s/Open/Adaptive/Summer: Scholarships and financial aid are not available for these programs. 
  • Core: School of Ballet RI offers two internal scholarship opportunities, both available for application beginning on July 27th, and closed for application on August 7th. Scholarship recipients will be notified of scholarship receipt by August 21. Please visit our website balletri.org for more information about how to apply. Scholarships available include: The Christine Hennessey Scholarship and The Derrick Davis Memorial Scholarship. Please note that students can apply to more than one scholarship concurrently. Scholarship applications are considered by a committee, with final decisions being made by the Principal and the Director. Students will be notified only if they have successfully received a scholarship. Notification will include the specific dollar amount allocated toward the student’s tuition and rarely covers the entirety of the expense. 
  • Summer Dance Intensive: Students seeking financial aid for Summer Dance Intensive can apply during the registration process. Applications can be completed online or in person at the Ballet RI studios. Financial records will be required during this process. Applications for financial aid are due by May 15, 2027. Please reach out to [email protected].
  • Company Repertory Workshop: Scholarships may be offered by the discretion of the Artistic Executive Director. There is no application for scholarships for this program.

CLASS INFORMATION

How long is each session?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Each session is 12 weeks long and there are 3 sessions.
  • Summer: For summer camps, there will be two 1 week sessions. Summer classes will run in one session from Jun. 22 – Aug. 15.
  • Summer Dance Intensive: Students can register for as few as 2 weeks, 3 weeks or all 5 Weeks. Weeks must be attended consecutively.
  • Company Repertory Workshop: Students can register for 1 or 2 weeks.
  • Adult: Adult classes are not session dependent, but instead can be registered for on a drop-in basis or via a monthly pass in our MindBody system. Classes can be registered for one month in advance or less. Additions of new classes and/or workshops to the weekly schedule will take place on a seasonal basis (Summer, Fall, Spring). Workshops take place in the Adult Program from time to time based on faculty availability. Participants can drop-in to the first class of the workshop, but otherwise enroll for the workshop’s entire duration.
How do students join?
  • Children’s/Open/Adaptive: Please reach out to the Front Desk ([email protected]) to ask any questions related to registration policies and the correct class for your child’s age. Once the correct level is determined, you may register for it online or in person. You may also request a Trial Class for a $15 fee.
  • Core: To join Core Program classes at Ballet RI, please reach out to [email protected] to arrange for your child to take a placement class. If a child is looking to join and is currently in a remote location, they may be given an option to send in a video audition. For either a placement class or a video audition, there is a one-time $25 fee. 
  • Summer Children’s Classes: Any child who fits the correct age range can register either online or in-person. Trial classes are available during the first week of summer.
  • Summer Dance Intensive: Students who wish to register for Summer Dance Intensive must audition. Auditions are typically held in the Winter preceding the respective program, and there is a one-time $25 fee. Decisions regarding acceptance into the program are typically within two weeks of the audition. Students will be sent registration information with their acceptance letter. 
  • Company Repertory Workshop: Participants must audition for Company Repertory Workshop and be invited to register by the Artistic Executive Director. Auditions are typically held in the Winter preceding the respective program. Decisions regarding acceptance into the program are typically within two weeks of the audition. Eligible participants will be sent registration information with their acceptance letter.
How are students placed?
  • Children’s/Open/Adaptive: Students are placed in accordance with their age. Students must meet the age requirement for the respective class by September of that academic year. Children may take a trial class if they are uncertain about their interest in dance class; trial classes take place during the four weeks of the registration period only, and there is a one-time $15 fee. 
  • Core: Once a placement class has taken place, children are assessed by the School of Ballet RI Faculty and the Principal of the Core Program. The Principal or School Office Manager will send a letter to the family notifying them of the child’s level placement and the schedule of the respective level. Upon receipt of that letter, families must register within the designated open registration period in order to ensure a spot in the program. Registration periods are listed on the annual school calendar. 
  • Summer Children’s Classes: Students are placed by age and must be that age by the start of the first class of the summer session.
  • Summer Dance Intensive: On the first day of Summer Dance Intensive, faculty will make an assessment to determine placement for the remainder of the program.
  • Adult: Adults should read through each class description provided online and self-determine their level. You may also contact [email protected] with any questions.
By what criteria are students assessed annually?
  • Children’s: Students in most of the Children’s Program do not have an annual assessment. Students in Pre-Ballet 3 will be given a year-end evaluation (June) by the primary faculty member for their respective level. These will be sent out to families via email. The year-end evaluation will include a recommendation for the following academic year’s level. 
  • Core: Students in the Core Program are given a mid-year progress report (February) and a year-end evaluation (June) by the primary faculty member for their respective level. These will be sent out to families via email. The year-end evaluation will include a recommendation for the following academic year’s level.
How long does a student stay in a particular level?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: To develop the requisite skills to ensure success in the next level, most students stay in a given level for 1-2 full academic years.
  • Adult: Adults should speak with the faculty member in a respective class about their level.
When is the schedule announced?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: When registration opens in mid-July. 
  • Summer: When registration opens in February. 
  • Summer Dance Intensive: In November, with auditions taking place the winter preceding the program.
Can I request that my student have a particular teacher?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive/Summer: Requests for specific teachers cannot be accommodated. 
  • Adult: Each class will have a faculty member assigned. You will be able to view that faculty member’s biography and headshot online prior to registering. 
What if a student is placed into the wrong level of class?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: If faculty feel a student is placed in the incorrect level, the head of the program will be notified, and the student will be reassessed for correct placement. 
How are accessibility accommodations handled?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive/Summer/Summer Dance Intensive/Company Repertory Workshop: Families who have an accessibility need can schedule a time to speak with the program head to discuss accommodations as needed. Reach out to [email protected] (Children’s/Open/Adaptive) or [email protected] (Core).
  • Adult: Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions about accessibility in the Adult Program.
What is the dress code?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: Each class has a specific uniform, accessible on our Uniform page
  • Adult: Adult students are encouraged to wear clothing they feel comfortable moving in, such as they might wear to the gym or a yoga class and, for ballet classes, ballet shoes. Many adults also choose to wear leotards. Otherwise, there is no specific dress code.

 

Are new classes ever added?
  • Children’s/Core/Open/Adaptive: new classes are only added at the beginning of an academic year or for a summer program.
  • Adult: Administrators are regularly keeping an eye on enrollment levels to ensure high-quality delivery of the program. If you are interested in a particular class and we do not yet offer it, please feel free to share this information with the front desk staff to pass along to administrators.
Is housing available for Summer Dance Intensive and Company Repertory Workshop?
  • Yes, housing is available on a limited basis and is first come, first serve. When registering, students should submit the housing application. All housing payments are required by May 31.

FACILITIES

Located in the heart of Providence’s vibrant, charming East Side, Ballet RI’s facilities feature three spacious, light filled studios with sprung floors, ballet barres and mirrors, offering a safe and nurturing environment for developing dancers of all ages and abilities. The largest of the studios transforms into a 95 seat Black Box Theatre where new and innovative works for audiences of all ages are performed.

The vibrant, walkable neighborhood features unique shops, diverse restaurants, a charming public park and playground, and is easily accessible by bicycle, transit, and car. Ballet RI is a proud member of the Hope Street Merchants Association.
