For over 40 years Ballet RI has brought the art and practice of ballet to children in underserved communities in Rhode Island so that they may benefit from all that ballet has to offer.  In some of these community engagement programs Ballet RI comes to you, and with others you come to Ballet RI.  Together these programs impact an average of 13,000 youth each year.

Ballet RI Comes to You

ProviDANCE is Ballet RI’s fully-funded community engagement program for area schools. ProviDANCE introduces 2nd and 3rd grade students to the art and expression of ballet. This program provides after-school ballet classes to students at five Rhode Island Title 1 public schools. Designed to meet the needs of children and families, transportation and snacks are provided for Providence schools. Selected students are invited to continue their ballet studies at School of Ballet RI as part of their time in the program. Eventually, they are eligible to apply for scholarships to continue to study ballet at School of Ballet RI’s more rigorous, pre-professional training level.

Ballet RI brings its highly popular ballet productions for children, complete with sets and costumes to schools across Southern New England, ensuring elementary school students have access to live performance in the comfort of their own schools. Previous ballets have included: Peter and the Wolf, Hansel & Gretel, Gwendolyn the Graceful Pig, and Gwendolyn Goes Hollywood. Following the performance, students participate in a Q+A with the performers.

There is a base fee of $900 for participating schools with additional costs depending on travel requirements. Schools facing financial barriers may inquire about subsidized pricing.

As children increasingly communicate through digital media, the need to emphasize interpersonal interactions, critical and creative thinking, and self-expression is essential. Ballet RI understands this void and provides tailor-made dance education opportunities for K-12 students that work in tandem with common core learning objectives for interested partner schools.

Depending on the duration of the respective residency, pricing can be estimated at approximately $200 per class. Schools facing financial barriers may inquire about subsidized pricing.
